Invisalign

The Invisalign® aligner system straightens teeth using a series of nearly invisible, removable aligners that are custom-made specifically for your teeth. As you replace each aligner approximately every week, your teeth will move – little by little, week by week, gradually moving towards the projected final position.

We have provided an introduction to Invisalign® below. In addition, we have also created a more comprehensive website just about the Invisalign® system which provides lots more information, videos and testimonials.

Clear choice

By using Invisalign® clear aligners, achieving the smile you always dreamed of doesn’t have to be a big deal. The traditional route to correcting issues such as crooked teeth, gaps and crowded mouths has long been visible braces. However, the Invisalign® system uses no brackets or wires - it is clear, removable and comfortable, so it won’t interfere with your appearance or your life.

We know that a straight smile often means a healthy smile. Not only will Invisalign® clear dental aligners for adults straighten your teeth, they will also improve your overall dental health at the same time!

Step 2

Get your Invisalign Smile Visualisation

On the day of your appointment, we can create your FREE Smile Visualisation using our state-of-the-art 3D imaging scanner. This procedure is completely non-invasive, pain-free and takes just a few minutes.

You will be able to see the results of your scan immediately, which will show you a simulation of how your new smile could look. You may then discuss this with your dentist to ensure your treatment caters to your own personal smile goals.

We will then revisit how the Invisalign treatment works, and further discuss treatment times and costs.

Step 3

Invisalign treatment start

Prior to starting Invisalign treatment, one of our dentists will carry out a thorough clinical examination to assess your suitability for treatment, and recommend any necessary pre-Invisalign treatment work, such as a Hygienist clean.

Subject to suitability, the next steps will involve taking photographs of your teeth and smile. These, coupled with your 3D scan, will help our Invisalign technicians to create your treatment plan.

On approval of your treatment plan, we will instruct Invisalign to manufacture your aligners.

Step 4

Invisalign Aligner fitting

Once your Invisalign clear aligners have been delivered to the Practice, we will get back in touch to arrange an appointment to fit your aligners and explain what you need to know as your teeth straightening begins.

You will be provided with a series of Invisalign clear aligners to change approximately every week. You will be able to do this at home but we will arrange regular appointments during the course of treatment to check all is progressing as planned.

You will need to finish with retainers to keep your teeth in place and preserve your new smile:
1. Discreet fixed retainer on the back surface of your teeth, and
2. Vivera removable retainer on top of your teeth at night when you sleep

Why Invisalign teen?

Teenagers experience a golden time when all of their adult teeth have erupted, but they are still undergoing rapid facial growth. This can be the best opportunity to undertake orthodontic treatment to shape the appearance and function of their smile and support the future of their overall health.

Crooked teeth can have profound effects on a teenager’s self-esteem and social skills. If your parents had braces, you may have seen pictures of them with their mouths full of metal. Today, braces are much less noticeable. Metal braces are still used and offered at Cherry Dental, but many prefer the option of clear aligners such as Invisalign.

Teenagers are more than just big kids so we take care to include both the parent and teenager in all discussions we have.

Any Questions?

What is the Invisalign system?

Invisalign clear aligners are a virtually invisible way to straighten your teeth and achieve the smile you’ve always dreamed of. Using advanced 3D computer-imaging technology, we can plan your complete Invisalign treatment based on your Practitioner’s prescription, from the initial position of your teeth to the final desired position.

Then a series of Invisalign clear aligners are custom made for your teeth and your teeth only to move them little by little. Each aligner is worn for 1-2 weeks before being replaced by the next in the series, gradually moving towards the projected final position. Your Invisalign treatment time will be determined by your Practitioner, based on your specific needs.

What are the benefits of the Invisalign system?

Invisalign clear aligners are nearly invisible. No one may even notice that you’re wearing these virtually invisible aligners, making Invisalign treatment a seamless fit with your lifestyle and day-to-day interactions with others.

Invisalign clear aligners are removable, giving you the flexibility to eat and drink what you want during treatment. You can also remove the aligners to brush and floss as you normally would for fresh breath and to maintain good oral hygiene.

Unlike traditional fixed dental braces, there are no metal brackets or wires. This means that in most cases, less time is spent at the practice for adjustments.

Advanced 3D computer-imaging technology allows you to view your virtual results (ask about our FREE Smile Visualisation) and receive a detailed treatment plan so you can see how your teeth are expected to look when your treatment is complete.

Is this a new way to straighten teeth?

Dentists have successfully used removable appliances for years. However, with the application of Align Technology’s 3D computer technology and aligner customisation, Invisalign clear aligners can be used to treat a wide range of patients who want straighter teeth. The unique ClinCheck® software allows patients to see their treatment plan from beginning to end even before the start of treatment.

How much does Invisalign treatment cost?

As with other types of orthodontic treatment, the cost of Invisalign clear aligners is dependent upon the complexity of your teeth straightening and your course of treatment. As a general rule, the cost is comparable to traditional fixed braces.

In simple terms, the more complex your teeth straightening, the more Invisalign aligners are needed to achieve your best smile. Conversely, the less complex the straightening, the less Invisalign aligners are needed. Consequently, based on the number of Invisalign aligners your dentist prescribes as needed, the price goes up or down accordingly.

On this basis, only an accredited Invisalign dentist Provider is able to determine your cost.

How does the Invisalign clear aligner system work?

Invisalign clear aligners move teeth with an appropriate placement of controlled movement. Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign treatment not only controls the amount of movement per aligner, but also the timing of the movement. So at each stage, only certain teeth are allowed to move, as per the treatment plan for that particular stage. This results in an efficient force delivery system that moves teeth into the desired prescribed position.

What is the minimum age of a patient that can be treated with Invisalign aligners?

With experience, an Invisalign dentist can use Invisalign clear aligners to treat malocclusion for a majority of adults and adolescents who want a better smile. For teenagers, talk to your Invisalign Provider to see if Invisalign Teen may be the right treatment option for your child.

How often must I see my dentist once I have started Invisalign treatment?

Invisalign appointment intervals are generally the same as with traditional braces but can be much quicker with less time spent in the dentists’ chair during appointments as no adjustments need to be made to wires/brackets. Patients typically visit their Invisalign Practitioner every 4 to 6 weeks to ensure the treatment is progressing as planned and to receive their next few sets of Invisalign aligners. Your Invisalign dentist or Practitioner will decide based on your treatment.

How long does Invisalign treatment take?

The total duration of treatment depends on the complexity of the treatment and is generally comparable to that of traditional braces. Typically treatment can last between 3 and 18 months. During your consultation, your Invisalign dentist can provide you with more detailed information.

Is the Invisalign treatment painful?

Some people may experience temporary, minor discomfort for a few days, at the beginning of each new stage of treatment when they insert a new Invisalign aligner. This is normal and is typically described as a feeling of pressure. It is a sign that the aligners are working – moving your teeth gradually, helping you to achieve the final results. This discomfort typically goes away in a couple of days.

Will TMJ affect Invisalign treatment?

TMJ refers to the temporomandibular (jaw) joint. People with a TMJ condition can have a number of problems with the jaw joint, some of which can be aggravated by appliances and treatments like Invisalign clear aligners, and some which can improve, remain the same or even cause the condition to deteriorate. To find out if your TMJ problem will adversely impact treatment, please book an appointment to consult your Invisalign Practitioner.
